We can confirm that in anticipation of this announcement the team has been working closely with Trafford Council Leader Andrew Western and officers in securing the site with a robust legal covenant protecting it from future threats of development and creating a wonderful open space for this community to enjoy in permanence. My Flixton Neighbourhood Planning Group Event 7th June 2018

Image
Although great progress has been achieved in protecting our Green Belt there is more that we can do. Together as a community we have demonstrated the power that can yield when a common vision is shared about something we care about. Groups working together whether it be to protect the Green Belt, bringing pride to our public gardens and pushing for public facilities to remain open, have shown what can be achieved, but we feel more can be done. Therefore we think the next step is to develop a Neighbourhood Plan for Flixton to protect, enhance and maintain all the assets that mean so much to the identity of this community. With the above in mind we would like to invite you to a presentation event this Thursday 7th June 2018 between 7 30 and 9 pm at: John Alker Memorial Hall, Flixton Road, Flixton, M41 6QY

Well what a month that was.

Apologies yet again for not being able to give you regular updates but as you appreciate it has been tremendously busy time for the group so therefore our time has been limited. So here is what ahs happened in the last 6 or so weeks in brief. April saw us publish our local election campaign leaflet. 7000 leaflets were printed and distributed by our fantastic community of volunteers in Flixton, Urmston, Davyhulme East and West. May 1st saw us get some celebrity campaign publicity with none other than Eddie Izzard who popped in to poppies café (pardon the pun) as part of the Labour Party Local Election Campaign in M41. May 3rd saw what could possibly the defining point in our campaign to Save Flixton Green Belt. Labour took seats in Flixton, Davyhulme East and Davyhulme West from the Conservatives, these victories coupled with a Labour victory in Brooklands and the Green party taking two seats in Altrincham also off the Conservatives meant that Andrew Western became leader of T...

With March being such a busy month we've had no time to give you regular news updates so here is a whole months worth. 3rd March 2018: This marked the 'Breathing Space Conference' organised by all the regional Green Belt Groups, which involved experts in their fields offering alternatives than the ones that the country is at present adopting which is putting our Green Belt and Green Spaces under threat. Mayor Andy Burnham was invited as was all our elected representatives here in Flixton. None of them took up the invites and in Flixton's case two councillors didn't even have the good manners to respond to their invitations. Viv Ward and Jonathan Coupe surprise surprise!! 17th March 2018: Since the councils welcome U Turn on the closure of G H Carnall Leisure Centre we have maintained active dialogue and are in the process of arranging meetings with local residents, the Council, local elected reps. and Manchester Giants to discuss community inp...

Sunday 4th February 2018 :Council Approved Minutes of Meeting With SFGB Are Here

Hi Folks We finally have the minutes from our meeting with Sean Anstee, officers and planners available for your perousal. Your all going to have opinion on them but we would like to give you a brief summary of where we think we’re at. Although we have been fighting these proposals to build on our green belt since October 2016 the process has been rewound back to the start due to the GM Mayor Andy Burnhams insistence on a radical re-write of the GMSF (Greater Manchester Spatial Framework) to which these proposals fall under. As you will see in the minutes, Clare Taylor Russell Trafford Borough Councils head of strategic planning who is charged with dealing with Traffords allocation as part of the GMSF when asked specific questions about how figures were arrived at, responded with words like ‘average density assumptions’ and that the process is ‘iterative’. Effectively we are at the start of this process again (consultation stage) only now we have the advantage of being involved...
