COMMUNITY ANOUNCEMENT

We are delighted to confirm that Willy Wroe is not in the revised draft of the GMSF (GREATER MANCHESTER SPATIAL FRAMEWORK) in the release today by the GMCA (GREATER MANCHESTER COMBINED AUTHORITY).
We can confirm that in anticipation of this announcement the team has been working closely with Trafford Council Leader Andrew Western and officers in securing the site with a robust legal covenant protecting it from future threats of development and creating a wonderful open space for this community to enjoy in permanence.
We as a community group acknowledge in discussions with Trafford Council that the site has to be sustainable and so therefore we will be hosting a series of open events so the community can give their input on how the site can be future developed for all to enjoy.
We should also acknowledge with gratitude the unwavering support of Kate Green, Andrew Western and the Labour group who have delivered with actions and not just words including two motions in the council chamber to get this thing overturned plus the pledge from Councillor Western that if he became leader of Trafford he would remove the threat hanging over Willy Wroe as part of the GMSF... DELIVERED!!
The above could not have happened without this community getting together, so a big thanks should be given to ALL those who got off their backsides and took this fight on and the wider community who have followed this campaign and made a change at the ballot box last May enabling us to be in this positive position.

Following on from a meeting that core group members from SFGB and MY FLIXTON NEIGHBOURHOOD PLANNING GROUP had earlier this week with Council Leader Andrew Western and his team, we can confirm that this communities 3 year battle to protect our Green Belt maybe finally drawing to a close. Full and permanent protection for Willy Wroe is being put forward for executive approval on March 16th from when the next phase of future community use begins. We will have more details to share in the coming weeks so please watch this space. G H Carnall Consultation Drop in Events a Success

May saw two events arranged by Trafford Council and ourselves for the community to finally have their say on the future of this much loved, much used Leisure Centre and Social Hub. This has followed two and a half years of uncertainty surrounding the centre which has been fuelled with a long list of untruths and stories pedalled by people that want the centre shut because of the land it occupies, regardless of it's unquestioned value to the community and it's undoubted potential to pay for itself when run properly by those very people, had they cared about it's future security and the impact it would have on the community if it did.
